Fruit of the Spirit - Patience

We heard from Charmaine about being patient with parents, now we have a devotional from Matt Cheung, another senior high small group leader on what it would look like to be patient with God.

Patience with God - Matthew Cheung (Emmaus Leader)

Having Patience with a human is hard, but sometimes waiting for God is even more challenging.

Sometimes it is less obvious to see God at work than humans, but rest assured, He is at work. Imagine you're at a theatre, a live performance. When you're sitting in your seat at the beginning waiting, nothing is happening in front of your eyes. Yet, you know, behind the curtain and backstage, there's a large amount of preparation going on.

Sometimes the "theatre of life" is just like that! It seems like nothing is happening, everything is quiet, you're waiting, and there's no answer. Are the performers even in the building? Is God even in the building? But rest assured, God is always in the building and working on our behalf and our show! When the show starts, you know a lot is prepared backstage for the next scene in addition to what's happening on stage. God is no different!

But unlike watching a show at the theatre, we are not passive participants. Spiritual waiting is active: Don't confuse laziness and avoidance with searching and serving. But don't confuse searching and serving with impatient solving. But instead, prepare for God's fulfilment on His end. Our priorities and thoughts should still reflect His during times of waiting. Waiting is an opportunity to also pause, reflect, and realign ourselves to Him and who He wants us to be! Psalm 37: 7

Waiting on God helps us have Peace by letting go of our desire to control our worldly Flesh and releasing it to God and his Spirit! Peace comes from resting in the promises of God. There is Peace knowing this and working with God for a common goal instead of our way! Romans. 8:6

My Patience comes from the Peace of knowing who God is, what He has done, and what He promises to do. Lamentations 3:25-26

Questions to ponder:

What is it you're waiting on God?
How do you think God is working behind the scenes right now as you wait?
How do you specifically grow and align yourself in God during these times of waiting?
What do you need to give up in this broken world to have more Godly Peace?
What are God's promises in the Bible?
