Hi friends, we have a summer VBS (Vacation Bible School) ministry opportunity at another church in a town close to us on July 20-24. A VBS is a Monday-Friday morning childrens ministry in the summer where we have fun, do teaching, singing, crafts and run around. It’s outreach to the local community. SGA has hosted these in the beginning of July for decades. We get to go to Langdon to help Langdon Community Church run theirs!
Who can help
- We are hunting for people who have faith in Jesus and are responsible in their faith and action.
- If you’ve helped at a VBS with us, you know a bit of what we’re looking for.
- There is training for us if you don't know if you're useful. Info at the bottom of this page.
- We are hoping to get at least 15 teens grade 9-12 and 5 adults.
Where we going
- We are going to Langdon Community Church. http://www.langdonchurch.ca/
- SGA will provide the transportation.
What are we doing
- We would drive there in the morning (about 30 minute drive) to arrive there about 8:30am.
- They are doing a half day VBS and be done about 12:15pm
- They would feed us lunch and we would be back to Calgary at about 1:30pm.
- They estimate 60+ Grade 1-6 children.
- Our responsibilities will be group leading. We are leading groups and keeping kids safe and having fun.
- They will be doing the planning and station leading.
- There might be opportunities for us to do some music or the skits.
What challenges might there be?
- We have our own full day VBS the week before on July 13-17. Our hope is that you’d help out with our own VBS if your time is limited and you can’t do both.
- If you can’t commit to the whole Monday to Friday in Langdon, this is okay. We will accept you for the time you can help.
- If you know any other friends at other churches who are interested, you can tell them about this.
Training - Sunday, June 7th, at 1-2:30pm at SGA.
- At 1pm, the Langdon team will come and do a training seminar at our church! We'll feed us somehow and set this up. PLEASE tell me if you can attend!
- They say: The training session is mandatory for all volunteers as we cover vital info for the week, including role responsibilities, worker expectations and schedules, and applicable child and worker protection and safety protocols.
- Any adults (age 18 and over) serving in the day camp must have a criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening on file at SGA, completed within the past two years. If not, they will need to obtain one and submit a copy prior to day camp service.
